Are you a Bioinformatician or data scientist who wants to integrate & mine genomic/phenotypic cancer data? Do you have the skills to research, design, & develop analyses for data of genetic contributors to cancer? If so, then PDX Finder and EMBL-EBI are looking for you!
PDX Finder are searching for a highly skilled bioinformatician to support the EurOPDX consortium & EurOPDX Research Infrastructure in their analysis of genomic & drug response data from Patient-Derived Xenograft (PDX) models. EMBL-EBI is a partner of the EurOPDX Research Infrastructure, & is responsible for developing standards, harmonising PDX-related data, & developing analysis pipelines to feedback results of both project partners and the wider cancer research community.
The candidate will have the opportunity to re-use, design, & develop analyses pipeline to explore one of the fundamental problems of biology - how do our genes contribute to cancer? The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of NGS algorithms, demonstrable experience with commonly used cancer bioinformatics, and strong programming skills (Python, R, Java, or equivalent). The candidate will be part of growing team that is contributing to the state-of-the-art for phenomics, & will form global collaborations with peers in dedicated data analysis groups. The candidate will also frequently liaison with the biologists and clinicians that are part of the PDX communities, & have the opportunity to present their work at international meetings & publish in peer-reviewed journals.
The ideal candidate will have 3-years’ experience in bioinformatics and hold a postgraduate degree in Bioinformatics and/or related fields, although candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered. Other desirable qualities include:
Solid skill-set and experience in working in Bioinformatics
Practical knowledge of NGS algorithms & available resources for cancer bioinformatics
Competency in comparisons between NGS data sets
Proficiency with handling large data sets & developing robust analysis pipeline
Willingness to undertake international travel & availability for US based teleconferences is essential for this post. Excellent interpersonal, communication, & English skills are also essential, as the role will involve liaising with other scientists at the EBI and from around the world.
